Justification
Historically known from 11 locations through herbarium records, this species is now known from over 30 locations and has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 33 184 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 432 km². At least 62% of its habitat has been lost to urban expansion on the Cape Flats and habitat loss to wheat cultivation elsewhere in the range in the past. The remaining habitat continues to decline due to poor land management. This species is therefore listed as Near Threatened under criterion B. .

Range
This species has a disjunct distribution in the Northern Cape and Western Cape provinces of South Africa, where it occurs from Nieuwoudtville to Cape Peninsula.

Description
It occurs in seasonally wet sandstone soils or sandy clay loams.
Threats
At least 62% of this species' habitat has been lost to agriculture on the West Coast around Saron, Elandsberg, and Stellenbosch; and urban expansion on the Cape Flats. Over 70% loss of habitat was observed at Uitkamp wetland, where the habitat was either completely destroyed by building or the hydrology of the area altered which causes loss of habitat for this species. Grass invasion threatens populations in Rondebosch Common and Milnerton Race Course. Habitat quality continues to decline due to poor land management practices.
Population

It is known from scattered subpopulations. Records posted on iNaturalist indicate that this species is still fairly common in remnant fragments. It was also found in areas where it had not been recorded before.
