Justification
This taxon has a widespread distribution, having an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 41 679 km² and is fairly common (known from 20 locations) but has a small area of occupancy (AOO) 88 km². There has been a significant decline in populations of this taxon over the last few decades due to illegal harvesting to supply the specialist succulent trade. It therefore qualifies as Near Threatened under criterion B.

This species is endemic to the Northern Cape Province of South Africa, where it occurs in the Richtersveld and Namaqualand areas stretching from Sendelingsdrif to Garies

Description
It occurs on quartz flats, slopes and hills to gneiss domes on the Kamiesberg.
Threats
This taxon is experiencing ongoing decline due to illegal harvesting to supply the specialist succulent trade.

It is common, particularly on the quartz hills of western Bushmanland.
