Justification | Lachenalia stayneri is a rare, range-restricted species with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 41-85 km². Recent field observations indicate that it persists at five locations, but it is also possibly still present at two more locations known through historical records. It continues to decline due to severe, ongoing habitat loss. |

Description | It occurs on gentle lower slopes and flats with stony clay soils in renosterveld and succulent karoo. |
Threats |
| This species is threatened by severe, ongoing habitat loss to urban expansion around Worcester. In the Hex River Valley it was last recorded in 1962, and is suspected to be locally extinct due to habitat loss to vineyards. The population has also been reduced and fragmented by vineyard expansion in the Breede River Valley between Rawsonville, Goudini and Worcester. It was recorded around De Wet between Worcester and De Doorns in the 1970s, and may also be locally extinct in this area due to habitat loss to vineyards. |

This rare and localized species' population is being continuously reduced and fragmented due to severe, ongoing habitat loss. Land cover data indicate that it has lost 4% of its habitat between 1990 and 2014.
