Justification
This species has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 14 466 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 28 km². It is known from six subpopulations but more undiscovered subpopulations are likely to occur. It is not threatened and is therefore listed as Least Concern.

Range
This species is endemic to the Eastern Cape Province and is known to occur from the Kei River near Stutterheim to the Mzimvubu River south of Port St. Johns.

Description
Plants are wedged in rock crevices on shale cliffs and rocky slopes and banks overlooking rivers, in grassland and open thicket.
Threats
Habitat degradation by grazing livestock is likely to be a threat across most of this species' range. However, its preference for rock crevices may offer it some protection against the effects of grazing-related degradation.
Population

This species is known form at least six subpopulations. It was previously known from the type collection from Komga district, and a few other collections made in Transkei and Maclear in 1970. New collections were made between 1994 and 2013 in Maclear, Stutterheim and Port St. Johns districts. The population trend and size is unknown, but it not suspected to be declining.
