Status and Criteria | Vulnerable D2 |
Assessment Date | 2019/03/25 |
Assessor(s) | L. von Staden |
Justification | A rare, localized taxon (EOO 39 km², AOO 20 km²), known from four locations and potentially threatened by competition from alien invasive plants. |
Distribution |
Endemism | South African endemic |
Provincial distribution | Western Cape |
Range | Slanghoek Mountains and Du Toit's Kloof Mountains. |
Habitat and Ecology |

Major habitats | Western Coastal Shale Band Vegetation |
Description | Rocky slopes in shale bands at high altitudes, 1500-2200 m. |
Threats |
Alien invasive plants, particularly pines and hakeas, are spreading uncontrolled in the Bains Kloof and Du Toit's Kloof Mountains. At present invasions are largely restricted to lower slopes, but once they reach the summit ridges and peaks where this taxon occurs, it is likely to lead to a rapid increase in risk of extinction. |
Population |
This taxon is known from four isolated subpopulations within a small area.
|
Population trend | Stable |
