A widespread species with an extent of occurrence of 253 701 km², it is not in danger of extinction and is listed as Least Concern.

Range
A species found in the eastern parts of South Africa in the Limpopo, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal Provinces. It also occurs in tropical Africa to Saudi Arabia, Socotra and India.

Description
It grows on sandy soil on riverbanks, along evergreen and riverine forest margins or Miombo woodland, often in secondary or disturbed places, and next to streams in river forests.
Threats
Two subpopulations are threatened by competition from invasive alien species (Matatiele and Mzinto). The Mzinto subpopulation is additionally threatened by habitat degradation due to too frequent fires and habitat loss due to agricultural crops.
