Scientific Name | Ficinia limosa Levyns |
Higher Classification | Monocotyledons |
Family | CYPERACEAE |
National Status |
Status and Criteria | Near Threatened B1ab(ii,iii,iv,v) |
Assessment Date | 2022/05/09 |
Assessor(s) | M. Muasya & H. Mtshali |
Justification | Although relatively widespread, extent of occurrence (EOO) 20 499 km², this species remains in 11-16 locations. The population continues to decline due to expansion of agriculture and housing, and alien plant invasion. It is therefore listed as Near Threatened as it nearly meets the thresholds for listing as Vulneable under criterion B. |

Threats |
This species is threatened by ongoing habitat loss and degradation. Over large parts of this species' range, its habitat had been transformed and fragmented as a result of agricultural expansion. Remaining areas are often heavily grazed, and otherwise infested with alien invasive plants. Urban expansion has also caused significant habitat loss on the Cape Flats, and is an ongoing threat on the Agulhas Plain and southern Cape coast. |
