Scientific Name | Erica inamoena Dulfer |
Higher Classification | Dicotyledons |
Family | ERICACEAE |
Synonyms | Erica blesbergensis H.A.Baker |
National Status |
Status and Criteria | Least Concern |
Assessment Date | 2022/09/20 |
Assessor(s) | F. Munro, E.G.H. Oliver & R.C. Turner |
Justification | Erica inamoena is a high-altitude habitat specialist with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 9556 km². It has an estimated 15 locations, but likely to occur at, at least, another 10 unsampled peaks. This species' habitat is being degraded due to the spread of alien invasive vegetation. Irregular fire regimes, including too frequent fires, are posing a threat, though not as immediate as the invasive species. Despite some decline it does not yet qualify under a category of threat, and is therefore listed as Least Concern. |
Distribution |
Endemism | South African endemic |
Provincial distribution | Western Cape |
Range | This species is found on the Klein Swartberg, Groot Swartberg, and Kammanassie Mountains in the Western Cape province of South Africa. |
Habitat and Ecology |
Major system | Terrestrial |
Major habitats | Swartberg Altimontane Sandstone Fynbos, North Kammanassie Sandstone Fynbos, South Swartberg Sandstone Fynbos, North Swartberg Sandstone Fynbos, North Rooiberg Sandstone Fynbos, North Outeniqua Sandstone Fynbos, North Langeberg Sandstone Fynbos |
Description | Its habitat is fynbos, on rocky ridges and summit slopes at high altitude, in peaty accumulate over rock. |
Threats |
Irregular and too frequent fires may result in habitat degradation leading to locations being lost. However, the majority of the subpopulations where this species is known to occur are not threatened by invasive alien vegetation, only two of the 15 known sites have records of invasive Pinus pinaster and Hakea sericea species present. |
Population |
The population is suspected to be declining at a low rate due to the spread of alien invasive species.

Population trend | Decreasing |
