National Status |
Status and Criteria | Least Concern |
Assessment Date | 2017/05/20 |

Justification | A widespread (EOO 1497 km²) but rarely recorded species, currently known from three widely scattered subpopulations. It is likely to be overlooked, rather than rare or threatened. |
Distribution |
Endemism | South African endemic |
Provincial distribution | Northern Cape |
Range | Hantamsberg and Roggeveld Escarpment around Sutherland. |
Habitat and Ecology |
Major system | Terrestrial |
Major habitats | Succulent Karoo |
Description | Open, succulent karroid scrub, in fine alluvial sands over shale at the foot of sandstone outcrops. |
Threats |
There are no severe threats to this species. |
Population |
This species was previously only known from a small area around Sutherland. Recent collections however confirmed its occurrence on the Hantamsberg, ±140 km further north, suggesting that it is possibly more widespread and common across the Roggeveld Escarpment. This species flowers during summer, outside the peak flowering season for the area, and is therefore likely to be overlooked.
