Justification | This species is widespread, but a rare and localized habitat specialist. It has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 344 962 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 68 km². It is known from at least eight subpopulations and is not threatened. It is listed as Least Concern. |

Range | It is endemic to South Africa, and has a wide, but scattered distribution across the eastern summer rainfall areas, from the Soutpansberg in Limpopo to the Boschberg near Somerset East, Eastern Cape. It has not been recorded in KwaZulu-Natal, but is likely to occur there. |

There are no severe threats to this species. |
Population |
This is a rare and very localized habitat specialist. It is possibly overlooked in KwaZulu-Natal and the eastern parts of the Eastern Cape, as its habitat is often inaccessible. The population is however not suspected to be declining.
