Justification
This Eastern Cape endemic has a restricted range, with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 14 017 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 100 km². Its habitat at between 17 and 20 known locations is declining due to habitat loss and degradation. It is therefore listed as Near Threatened under criterion B.

This species occurs in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa in the districts of King William's Town, Stutterheim, and Komga, there is also a single disjunct population recorded from near Umtata.

Description
It grows on exposed intrusive dolerite sills in moist upland grassland.
Threats
Current threats to this species in King William's Town and Umtata region include habitat loss from human settlement and degradation from livestock trampling.
Population

This species can be locally common but only occurs in a specialised habitat and is thus limited in its occurrence. The population trend is inferred to be declining as a result of ongoing habitat loss to human settlement and habitat degradation due to trampling by livestock.
