Justification
This Western Cape endemic has a restricted range and has declined significantly across the lowlands of the south-western Cape, and continues to decline due to ongoing habitat loss and degradation. An estimated population reduction of 30-40% over three generations is inferred from habitat loss over the past 90 years (generation length 30 years). It therefore meets the threshold for Vulnerable under criterion A2.

South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range
This taxon is endemic to the south-western Cape, where it occurs from the Cape Peninsula to Worcester and Piketberg.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Swartberg Shale Renosterveld, Swartland Granite Renosterveld, Breede Shale Fynbos, Atlantis Sand Fynbos
Description
It is found on gravelly ground or red clayey or white sandy soils.
Threats
A total of 80% of this species' habitat has been irreversibly modified to croplands and urban development. Plants remain in small patches of shale renosterveld and sand fynbos, which continues to decline due to inappropriate fire management and spreading alien invasive plants.
Population

Subpopulations remain in small fragments of fynbos renosterveld. Population trends and size are unknown, but population decline is inferred from ongoing habitat loss and degradation. Since 80% of this species' habitat has been lost, the majority since 1940 (82 years), a loss of between 30 and 40% of the population is suspected to have occurred over the past three generations (90 years).
