Justification | An endemic to the Namaqualand region of the South Africa, extent of occurrence 2305 km². While currently known from six threat based locations it is likely to be overlooked and occur at a few more, an upper limit of 15 locations may exist. This taxon is experiencing ongoing decline as a result of illegal collection for the specialist succulent horticultural trade. |

Description | Shallow grit pans on gneiss, often sheltered beneath small rocks. |
Threats |
Sought after by collectors but the wide and scattered distribution of subpopulations minimises the risk of extinction. The population of this taxon is however declining as a result of collecting. |
Population |
This taxon is less common than subsp. depressum, and has a more restricted range. It is also less cryptic than subsp. depressum, but still likely to be overlooked and more common than records suggest. The population size is difficult to estimate, but is likely to exceed 1000 plants. It is declining due to illegal harvesting.
