National Status
Status and Criteria
Data Deficient - Insufficient Information
Assessment Date

A range-restricted, and very poorly known species, last recorded in 1956. Its specific habitat requirements are not well understood. If it occurs on rocky mountain slopes, it is unlikely to be threatened, but if it also occurs on lower slopes and flats in the Hex River Valley it is likely to be severely threatened or possibly even extinct due to habitat loss to vineyards.
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Hex River Valley near De Doorns.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Major habitats
Fynbos, Succulent Karoo
Rocky, south-facing mountain slopes, 425-900 m.
This species is rare and poorly known, and most collections have imprecise locality descriptions, which makes inferences about threats likely to impact the population difficult. Altitudes recorded on specimens suggest that it occurs at mid to low altitudes, and therefore it is likely to have lost habitat to vineyards in the Hex River Valley around De Doorns.

This species is known from only a few collections, and was last recorded in 1956. Subpopulations within the Hex River Valley are now possibly locally extinct due to habitat loss to vineyards. At one locality, where the species was last recorded in 1921, intact habitat still remains, but the status, size and trends of the population is not known.
